Grace Sinclair Represents Her Fellow Classmates
By Marsha Shomidie
VP, Pleasant Plains Branch Manager
Not many students can say they have worked to represent their fellow students in politics; Grace Sinclair can. Grace was on the 99th District Student Representative Committee for Illinois State Representative Sara W. Jimenez. Once a year the students would meet with Rep. Jimenez and discuss problems within their area schools, ideas about improvements they could make, etc.
Outside of her involvement in politics, Grace participates in many extra-curricular activities. She is the captain of the basketball and soccer team, and also plays volleyball. She is a cheerleader, and she is in the Spanish Club, Science Club, and Beta Club.
Additionally, she serves on Student Council and is a Cardinal Ambassador, helping out incoming freshman students. She also was inducted into the National Honors Society where she sits as its president. Along with all that, she spends nine days out of her summer being a Junior High Student Council Leadership camp counselor, where she goes around to Junior High Student Councils from all over the state of Illinois. She says it is her most rewarding experience, because she wants to help shape Illinois youth to be kind and to demonstrate leadership for them.
Grace has earned the title of Illinois State Scholar, the Penn Station winter athlete of the year, and both All-Conference honors and the Cardinal award for basketball. She has also earned the Clayville Scholarship, and the Mary Lou and Dwight Pitman Scholarship.
Grace will be heading to Murray State where she earned the University Presidential Fellowship. She plans to study chemistry on the pre-med track.
The Senior-of-the-Month Program is sponsored by Illinois National Bank. Monthly winners receive a $50 award. They are also in the running for the $500 Senior-of-the-Year Award also sponsored by INB.
