INB Taking Sangamon County Tax Payments

house sitting on moneyThe second installment of your Sangamon County tax payment is due Friday, Sept 1. You can make the payment during regular bank hours via the drive-up or inside any INB branch in the county. You can also mail the payment to the county, or make your payment in person at the Sangamon County Building, 200 S. 9th St. room 104.

INB began serving as a tax-payment location in 2015 at the request of the county. That first year we accepted 7,000 payments. Last year we exceeded 9,700.

We Make Payment Easy

To make sure you’re in and out of the bank or drive-up as quickly as possible, do three things:

  1. Bring in your tax payment coupon. INB staff do not have access to county records.
  2. Write your check out ahead of time.
  3. Don’t wait until the last minute! The day payments are due has traditionally been a busy day even though our branch managers and other bank staff step in to help.

We will take first installment tax payments through June 9 and for the September installment through Sept. 1, 2017.

Never Write Another Property Tax Check: Set Up an Escrow Account

If you’re an INB mortgage customer, you can avoid writing this annual check or worrying about how to make your payment by setting up an escrow account. An escrow account is a free way for you to set aside the money for your property taxes, and then INB handles the payments with the county.

To help everyone understand exactly how an escrow account works, we developed this short video.

Escrow Introduction Doodle video

INB typically sets the escrow accounts up at the time of a mortgage closing, but we can open one at any time. All it takes is a phone call to get the process started. In either case, you establish your account with an escrow deposit as explained in the video.

Once the account is established, you don’t do anything but make your mortgage payments. We monitor the account, make payments your account is designed to cover, and send you an analysis each year.
