Pleasant Plains Senior has a Giving Heart
By Marsha Shomidie
VP, Pleasant Plains Branch Manager
Carolyn Nika has a love for musicals. She most recently played the role of Liesl von Trapp in Pleasant Plains High School production of “The Sound of Music.” Just like her musical mother, Maria von Trapp, Carolyn has been blessed with a giving and nurturing heart. She plans to enter the medical field to become a nurse. That’s why she was chosen as the January Senior-of-the-Month by faculty and staff based on the criteria of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
She is also a member of the National Honor Society, volleyball team, track team and Spanish club. She serves as the vice president of Inreach of Beta Club and vice president of National Honor Society (2017-2018). Carolyn was also a member of the 4×400 meter relay team as a sophomore that placed 4th at the IHSA State Track and Field meet in 2016. She was awarded the Illinois State Scholar prize in 2017.
Carolyn plans to major in nursing and obtain her Bachelor of Science degree (BSN). She hopes to work in pediatrics and will later return to school to obtain a Master’s degree and become a nurse practitioner.
The Senior-of-the-Month Program is sponsored by Illinois National Bank. Monthly winners receive a $50 award. They are also in the running for the $500 Senior-of-the-Year Award also sponsored by INB.
